Magnesium Foot Soak

How much magnesium for a foot soak?

The amount depends on a number of factors. Above all, how well you tolerate it. Most people tolerate it very well without feeling any side effects.

If you take too small a dose, you will absorb almost no magnesium. Therefore you can start with a concentration of 2%. And then slowly increase it up to 5%.

The classic magnesium oil has a concentration of 30%. However, it is not worth going that high for a foot bath.

Recipe for a successful foot bath with magnesium

  • A nice foot tub. Make sure that your feet have enough space.
  • As much magnesium chloride as you have calculated above, I always use this for my foot baths and homemade magnesium oil.
  • As much water as entered in the calculator
  • Lay two towels ready.
  • Care cream for your feet. They need it after the bath.
  • A book or notebook to keep you busy. Best to browse this page.
  • A few drops of essential oil.

This is how your foot bath with magnesium chloride works

  1. Fill the foot tub with warm water. Preferably the water should have a temperature of 37°C. This will open the pores.
  2. Place the tub on a towel, ideally in front of your favorite armchair or couch. It is important that you can sit comfortably for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Now add the calculated amount of magnesium chloride to the foot bath.
  4. Place your activity things and the second towel within reach.
  5. Now it is time to make yourself comfortable. Immerse your feet in the warm water and relax.
  6. Enjoy the relaxation for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Then you can dry your feet. No rinsing is necessary.
  8. (Now you could also do a foot peeling.)
  9. Ideally, your partner will now cream your feet. If not, you may do it yourself.

How often do you take a magnesium foot bath?

If you want, every day. There is nothing to stop it. If you stick to our dosage. Your skin will not be stressed excessively and does not need any longer breaks.

But you don’t have to do it every day. However, if you have a magnesium deficiency or often suffer from cramps, I would rather bathe your feet in magnesium daily in the beginning.

When the deficiency has been remedied and you don’t have cramps anymore, you only need to take a magnesium foot bath 1 to 2 times a week. And if you are particularly rich in minerals, less often.

Why is magnesium important?

Because magnesium is involved in over 300 metabolic processes. And these metabolic processes are incredibly versatile.

Magnesium is important e.g. for muscle contraction, or better for its relaxation after contraction. So if we have a muscle tense, it would remain in this state without magnesium.

Magnesium is also important for communication between nerves and muscle cells and for heart activity. Strong teeth and bones are only possible with the help of magnesium.

And these were only a few functions.

But I have not mentioned an important function of magnesium in today’s society. Magnesium is the mineral of inner peace. Because without magnesium, relaxation is not possible at all. Not even for a Zen master.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency

Magnesium deficiency does not always show up as calf cramp. Often a deficiency is accompanied by other symptoms. Frequently also which one would not ascribe immediately to the magnesium deficiency. Therefore you have here all symptoms of a lack which I could find:

  • Calf cramps
  • muscle cramps
  • Muscular tensions
  • flutter of the eyelids
  • muscle twitches
  • tingling in fingers and feet
  • tremors
  • Inner restlessness
  • nervousness
  • lassitude
  • fatigue
  • headaches
  • insomnia
  • cardiac arrhythmias
  • heart rate increase
  • high blood pressure
  • circulatory problems

I myself had some of these symptoms. And it could also be detected in the blood.

The problem with the blood test

About 1% of the magnesium found in the body is found in the blood. The rest is found in organs, bones, nerves, connective tissue, etc.

When I was diagnosed with a deficiency in my blood, I wondered how it could work. Because our body tries to hold a stable mirror. Through research I came across some uncomfortable information. Especially the German doctor Dr. Strunz writes a lot worth reading about this topic.

The uncomfortable truth about a magnesium deficiency in the blood is that all other tissues that also contain magnesium are at their limit. I had emptied my storage completely. If there is a deficiency in the blood, then there is an even greater one in the rest of the body.

And to correct such a deficiency it takes a few months to take magnesium orally.

The problem with intake

And the worst thing about taking it by mouth is diarrhea. It comes very quickly if you mean it too well. In addition, there is a confusion of magnesium compounds.

Only 4% of magnesium oxide is absorbed, but it lasts longer in the blood. Magnesium citrate is better absorbed, but also excreted faster.

The solution was for me magnesium foot baths, full baths and magnesium oil.

I was able to remedy my deficiency within 2 months.

Why is it worth taking a magnesium foot bath?

That is quickly answered. Full baths every day are anything but environmentally friendly. And you need more magnesium.

Magnesium oil is somewhat greasy and does not penetrate completely into the skin. After the application you have to wash off the area.

With the magnesium foot bath I had found the ideal solution for me.

I prepared a foot tub and bathed my feet in it several times. On the weekend I immersed my feet 6 times in the same tub. Before of course my feet rinsed off. If I had desire I have refilled a litre boiling water and 100g magnesium chloride.

But you can always put on a new tub.

Which magnesium do you take best for a foot bath?

I use magnesium chloride myself. Because it is dissolved in the water. This allows the individual ions to be better absorbed.

But it is also possible to use Epsom salt. This consists of magnesium sulphate. This compound can also be absorbed by the skin.

With the upper calculator one can also calculate approximately the concentration of a magnesium sulfate bath. It corresponds approximately to magnesium chloride.

Can I overdose my magnesium foot soak?

There is no overdose of magnesium in a foot bath. If the body is saturated with magnesium, it will not absorb any more. The absorption of magnesium via the skin is therefore very safe.

Irritations to the skin can occur at concentrations above 30%.

Conclusion

I love magnesium foot soak. After a long hike or a stressful day it is a perfect complement to my other relaxation techniques.

Even if the scientific situation on the subject is not yet clear, it had improved my magnesium level and eliminated all symptoms.

It also allows me to keep my magnesium level at a constant level. And best of all, it’s cheap.
